Electrical Systems Monitoring \u2013 Dam Infrastructure Project<\/p>\n

This project involved the upgrade and integration of the electrical monitoring systems within a dam facility in C\u00f3rdoba, enabling real-time supervision of electrical protections, power systems and generator sets from the client\u2019s central control room. <\/p>\n
The scope included the collection of signals from protection devices installed across multiple electrical switchboards throughout the facility. Existing network analysers and associated instrumentation were also upgraded to improve visibility and monitoring of the electrical infrastructure and generator systems.<\/p>\n
Each circuit protection device was wired to dedicated relay interfaces, allowing status signals to be transmitted back to the PLC system. The new network analysers were integrated into the PLCs installed across the different electrical rooms, providing real-time electrical data from the various sections of the installation.<\/p>\n
All signals were consolidated through multiple PLCs and integrated into the client\u2019s SCADA platform. A dedicated mimic diagram was developed to allow operators to monitor the status of electrical protections and circuits, visualise power consumption trends and manage alarms and notifications directly from the central operating environment.<\/p>\n
The installation was also designed with future expansion in mind, leaving the system prepared for the future automation of the generator sets, including the possibility of implementing automatic start and stop sequences based on the overall condition of the electrical system.<\/p>\n

Originally a manual system for controlling dam gates using tables and warning signs. The project automates the opening and closing of the gates according to the reservoir level using two redundant laser radars, cross-referencing data for greater reliability. Existing sensors (encoders and limit switches) are integrated, and a PLC is programmed with automatic and manual modes. An HMI is added for control and configuration, and the system is left ready for future expansion. <\/p>\n
