Industrial Automation Engineering

Weir gate automation project

The project involved the automation of gate operations in a diversion weir, replacing a fully manual process based on predefined level tables and operator intervention.

The system was upgraded through the design and implementation of a PLC-based control system capable of automatically operating the gates according to reservoir water levels and the operating sequence defined by the client. Dual laser level instrumentation was installed at separate locations within the reservoir to provide redundant level measurement and improve operational reliability by cross-checking sensor data.

Existing encoders and limit switches installed on the gates were retained and integrated into the new control system, allowing continuous monitoring of gate position and operational status while minimising modifications to the existing infrastructure.

An HMI interface was also developed, enabling operators to monitor, configure and operate the system through a centralised control environment. In addition to the automatic operating mode, a manual override mode was implemented to allow direct operator control when required.

The system architecture was designed with future expansion in mind, allowing the integration of additional signals, external data sources and further redundancy in critical areas such as gate positioning and sensor monitoring.

Featured projects:

Monitoring of electrical installations at the Puente Nuevo Dam

Project to monitor the facility’s electrical system. Protection signals are collected and network analysers are upgraded to monitor the generator sets in real time. The signals are sent to PLCs and integrated into the SCADA system, where statuses, consumption and alarms are displayed via a synoptic panel. The system is now ready for future automation of the start-up and shutdown of the generator sets.

Control engineering

Design and integration of control systems in residential and commercial settings. In the detached house, a comprehensive home automation system is implemented to manage lighting, climate control, blinds and security, featuring distributed architecture, customised scenes, consumption monitoring and remote control. In the office building, a centralised system is developed to manage facilities and energy consumption in real time, with alarm generation and efficiency analysis. Both systems are prepared for future expansions and integrations.
